The following are the steps in the placement process:
A. Registration with OCS -> company submits ERF -> student coordinator assigned to the company -> registration for company opens -> student registers for the company before deadline -> registration for company closes -> dates for PPT and online/written test announced by coordinator after confirmation of company -> student attends PPT -> student attends tests -> company shortlists the students and informs Office of Career Services -> Office of Career Services/student coordinator announces shortlisting for interviews -> interview slot will be allotted to company -> shortlisted students attend final interview -> job offer
Each student needs to have a clear idea of their future plans (i.e higher studies / campus placement / any other option) and accordingly participate in the placement process. If a student is strongly interested in higher studies then it is better not to participate in the placement process. Taking a job and going for higher education will affect badly for (a) company, (b) other students including junior batches and (c) IITH reputation
The students graduating in the academic year 2025-26 and seeking employment in the placement season 2025-26 should register on OCS portal within the given deadline. Registration through the student portal(OCS) is mandatory.
During the placement process the student has to (i) log in the student portal (this is one time process) and (ii) register individually with each company for which he/she is eligible and interested. Both these registrations have to be done on OCS portal within the respective deadlines.
Students furnishing false information will be debarred from participating in placement activities.
Registration for placements is a two part process, (i) registration and (ii) creating a student profile. Students must make sure that the entire process is completed on OCS portal. Partial registrations will not be considered.
A master CV is a resume that states absolutely everything that you have done in your career that you might one day include in a resume. By keeping it well formatted, you can copy the document and use it as the base each time you put together a resume to apply for a different position.
The resume with which one applies for a particular company must be a subset of the master resume.
Master resume will not be sent to the company, you need to apply with a different resume for every company. Master resumes once submitted cannot be altered.
The OCS Portal creates your resume automatically in the standard IITH format based on the information provided during registration.
Students must prepare resumes in various formats as per the job profile of individual companies.
These resumes are to be submitted to companies upon request by companies / student coordinators.
The student will be responsible for the accuracy of the information provided in the resume. IITH will not be answerable for any objections about the accuracy of information in the resume.
The student must safely maintain originals of all certificates (as applicable) including birth, SSC, education, caste, income, medical, domicile, passport, PAN, and other certificates etc. These originals should be made available for verification at any time during the process. It is advised to also maintain the above documents as xerox copies and scanned copies.
The verification of the Master CV will be conducted in three rounds, as per the specified timelines informed by the OCS team.
It is solely the responsibility of students to check mails / announcements / notices / updates etc. from the Student coordinators / Office of Career Services
Students who have applied for a job opening at a company must attend a Pre-Placement Talk (PPT) conducted by the company. The coordinators will take attendance of the participating students after the start of the session, and a copy will be given to the company for records. In the event that a student misses a PPT, they must fill out the form form before the talk.
If a student misses more than two PPTs without valid reason (as per OCS policies ), he or she will be disbarred from the placement session.
After attending the PPT the student may decide to de-register for the company soon after the completion of PPT with a valid reason.
It is the sole responsibility of students to check the details / profile of the company before registering or after attending PPT. Students are free to approach the placement office for any queries.
Sometimes, the company may conduct online tests before PPT. In such cases, students should have a clear idea of the company before appearing for an online test as de-registration is allowed only before the online test process and not after that.
Once a student receives an offer from any company, he / she is considered as placed irrespective of student’s acceptance or rejection of offer.
Students receiving an offer from one company will be automatically restricted to apply for any more companies. If the company withdraws the offer or student refuses the modified offer, He/she will be considered unplaced and would be eligible to sit for all companies.
Offer letters received by OCS have to be collected by the students.
In case, if the students directly receive the offer letters, the same must be intimated to the Office of Career Services.
Any mismatch between the job particulars mentioned in the ERF and Offer letter should be brought to the notice of OCS immediately.
Submission of supporting documents before the deadline as per the offer letter to the company is the responsibility of students.
Students who wish to reject an offer should inform the company and Office of Career Services immediately with a valid reason (Email / Written).
Blanket rule: One Student - One offer We follow equal opportunity for all registered students, to this effect, students are allowed to have one offer policy.
For placements, students are allowed only one offer. Once a student accepts a placement offer, they will be considered out of the placement process. There is no dream option in placements.
For PPOs (Pre-Placement Offers), a pre-declared dream option will still be allowed. Students wishing to use the dream option for PPOs must submit a written declaration to the Office of Career Services in advance, as per the dream company formula.
If you are simultaneously appearing in the hiring process for two companies say A&B, if the results of A delays and if you are selected in B company, this will be treated as first offer and vice versa.
For placements, the first offer ends the student’s participation in the placement process. For PPOs, if the student has pre-declared a dream option, an offer during placment will count as the second (and final) offer.
For accepted PPOs having packages > 20 lakhs, the student is eligible to register for 1 company paying at least 2.5 times the PPO package, whereas for those under 20 lakhs, the student can register for upto 5 companies of his/her choice without any multiplier.
If a student accepts PPO of companies offering packages >20 lakhs (CTC), only the dream option will be available.
If a student accepts a PPO with a package ≤20 lakhs (CTC), he/she can participate in regular placements limiting to a maximum of five registered opportunities of their choice.
If a student rejects a PPO, he/she can participate in the regular placements till he/she gets the second offer and will not be eligible for a dream option.
Before rejecting any PPO you are advised to consult with the Office of Career Services.
